BMBF Innovation Forum: Workshop

SIFO Projects for Municipal Crisis Resistance and Resilience:
Event for Municipal Decision-Makers, Emergency Services, and further Users on May 6, 2024, from 13:00 in Berlin

Crises and disasters such as extreme weather events present municipalities with new challenges. The BMBF program »Research for Civil Security« funds various projects that are intended to support municipalities in crisis situations by creating an overview of the situation or providing recommendations for action so that resilience towards disruptive events is increased.

In order to evaluate and discuss these projects with potential users, an interactive workshop will be held on May 6 at the Fraunhofer Forum in Berlin.  Under the motto »Municipal crisis resistance and resilience with SIFO projects«, we cordially invite you as municipal decision-makers and disaster prevention experts, as well as other interested parties, to take part. The workshop is being organized by the team of the project »Heuristic resilience analyses for municipalities using data space functionalities (HERAKLION)« of the Fraunhofer Institute for High-Speed Dynamics, Ernst-Mach-Institut (EMI), from Freiburg.

This event serves to promote networking and knowledge transfer between research projects in the field of civil security research against the backdrop of crises and disasters such as increasing extreme weather events and the resulting challenges for municipalities. In addition to the HERAKLION project, a number of other civil security research projects will also be presented, among them AKRIMA incl. AScore, HoWas21 incl. KAHR, KatHelfer PRO, KIWaSuS, MIRKKOMM, PanReflex, PsychoKat, and RESPAN. The overarching goal is to present the approaches investigated and the possibilities for supporting municipal decision-makers, emergency services and other users, as well as to interconnect the different projects.

In the following three thematic blocks, the content, solutions and overlaps with the other projects from civil security research will be discussed together with the municipal users:

  • Hazard and consequences
  • Societal vulnerability
  • Data availability, networking and transfer

We intend to obtain the broadest possible feedback from a municipal perspective and to work with the municipalities to develop the basis for a needs-based transfer into practical application.

To this end, we look forward to a broad participation of users who participate in the discussions, contribute requirements and wishes and thus help to create sustainable added value for municipalities.
